Prajwal Revanna ⁣Convicted in Rape Case, Awaits Sentencing​ Amidst emotional​ Court Plea

Suspended JD(S)⁤ leader Prajwal Revanna, grandson of ⁣former Prime Minister⁢ HD Deve Gowda, has been convicted in a rape case ⁢and is currently awaiting sentencing. The politician​ reportedly broke ‍down⁢ in court, claiming the complainants were “purposefully” brought forward by the prosecution and did⁣ not come⁣ forward voluntarily.

Prajwal Revanna, ⁢a 34-year-old former MP, ⁤expressed his distress to the court, stating, “they⁢ say ​that I have raped multiple ‌women, but none of the women have come out voluntarily to complain, they ​came six days‍ prior to election (Lok Sabha‍ polls last year)…the prosecution ​side brought them purposefully and made them give a ⁣complaint.” He also highlighted his educational ⁣background, mentioning he is a BE Mechanical graduate‍ who ‍always passed on merit.

The conviction,which​ occurred on Friday,August 1,pertains to ⁢a case involving a 48-year-old woman who worked as a house​ help at his family’s ⁢Gannikada farmhouse in‌ Hassan,Karnataka. The woman alleges she was raped twice⁣ in‌ 2021, and that the incidents were filmed. Revanna’s plea for a lighter‍ sentence was accompanied‍ by‌ the emotional ⁤disclosure that he has ‍not ‌seen his ‌family,including his parents,for six months.

“The only ​mistake I made in ​my life is growing ‍fast in politics,” Revanna told the⁢ court, reflecting on⁢ his political trajectory. his conviction comes as a significant blow to his political career,⁣ notably after failing to retain⁣ the Hassan lok sabha seat in‌ the 2024 elections. He​ had returned from Germany on May 31 last⁣ year ⁤amidst the controversy.

while there⁢ are four cases involving charges ⁤of rape and sexual‌ harassment against revanna,the conviction on ‌August 1 is for​ the specific⁤ case involving the former house help. A ‌day after his conviction, Revanna‍ also alleged that the woman only complained after certain videos were circulated and that she had not⁤ informed her husband or other family members about the ‍alleged⁣ assaults.

The prosecution ‍has requested ​a life​ sentence for the ​former MP ahead of his sentencing, which is expected⁣ imminently. The case ‍has garnered significant attention, casting a shadow over the‌ political landscape of ‍Karnataka and the ⁤legacy of the​ Deve gowda family.
