Jakarta Governor-Elect Pramono Anung Grateful for Rivals’ Decision to Forgo Election Challenge
Jakarta, December 12, 2024 – Pramono Anung, Jakarta’s newly elected governor, expressed his gratitude towards his rivals, Ridwan Kamil-Suswono and Dharma Pongrekun-Kun Wardana, for choosing not to contest the election results at the Constitutional Court. Anung believes this decision paves the way for collaborative efforts to improve the city.”I personally am grateful to running pairs 01 and 02 for not submitting the [election] lawsuit to the Constitutional Court,” Anung stated during a visit to Kebon Kosong Village in Central Jakarta.
Anung, a member of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), emphasized that the Jakarta election period has concluded smoothly. He is eager to fulfill his mandate as governor for the 2024-2029 term.
Highlighting the current global economic and political climate, Anung pointed to the turbulence and pressure of international politics, which he believes will inevitably impact Jakarta’s residents.
“If politics fail to improve swiftly, there will be consequences to face,” Anung warned. “Thus,I am thankful. This year’s Jakarta gubernatorial election has recorded the lowest level of political tension.”
The Jakarta General Election Commission (KPU) officially confirmed the election results on Sunday,declaring Anung and his running mate,Rano Karno,the victors. The PDIP candidate pair secured 2,183,239 votes, representing 50.07% of the total.
