Parbhani, Maharashtra – A shocking incident of alleged infanticide has come to light after an alert citizen spotted a wrapped bundle being thrown from a moving sleeper coach bus. The revelation led to the arrest of a couple, identified as Ritika Dhere and Altaf Shaikh, who were traveling from Pune to Parbhani.
A Journey of Horror Unfolds
The grim discovery was made when a vigilant passerby noticed something being ejected from a window of a Sant Prayag Travels bus.Upon inquiry, the citizen was horrified to find a newborn baby boy, wrapped in cloth. The immediate alert to the police via the 112 helpline set in motion a swift response.
According to officials, Ritika Dhere, who was reportedly pregnant, began experiencing labour pains during the journey. It is alleged that she gave birth to a baby boy inside the bus, and later, both she and Altaf Shaikh, who claimed to be her husband, wrapped the infant and discarded him from the moving vehicle.
The bus driver, operating the sleeper coach with its distinct upper and lower berths, had noticed the suspicious activity. When questioned, Shaikh reportedly claimed his wife had vomited due to nausea caused by the bus journey, attempting to conceal the true nature of the event.
Police Intervention and Tragic Outcome
A police team on patrol duty intercepted the luxury bus. Following a preliminary investigation and inspection of the vehicle, both Dhere and Shaikh were taken into custody.
The couple allegedly confessed to abandoning the newborn, citing their inability to raise the child. Tragically, the baby boy succumbed to his injuries after being thrown onto the road.
Couple’s background and Legal Ramifications
Authorities revealed that both Dhere and Shaikh hail from Parbhani and had been residing in Pune for approximately eighteen months. While they presented themselves as a married couple, they were unable to provide any documentation to substantiate their claim.
Following their apprehension, ritika Dhere was promptly taken to a hospital for necessary medical treatment.
A case has been registered against the couple at the Pathri police station in Parbhani. They have been charged under Section 94 (3), (5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), pertaining to the concealment of birth by secret disposal of a dead body. Notices have been served to the accused, and the investigation into the deeply disturbing incident is ongoing.
