Aspinall Defies Critics, Advances in Premier League Darts

Nathan Aspinall, ranked No. 8, has silenced doubters by reaching the Premier League Darts final four, despite facing criticism over his inclusion in the eight-man competition.Some, like fellow players Mike de Decker and Dave Chisnall, suggested his popularity, fueled by his walk-on song, played a role.
The Stockport native, nicknamed “The Asp,” has battled online abuse, recovered from elbow, wrist and back injuries, and combatted dartitis to achieve this success. Dartitis is a condition where players experience a mental block when throwing.
Aspinall addressed the abuse he received online, stating it “ruined my life for a month, not just my life, my family’s. It was horrific.” He said this after a win in Aberdeen.
Michael van Gerwen, a three-time world champion, failed to qualify for the playoffs after a challenging season. His last Premier League title came in 2023. He had secured seven victories and two runner-up finishes in his previous 12 campaigns.
“this is probably one of the hardest Premier Leagues I have ever played in – not in terms of players, but in terms of myself,” Michael van gerwen, Professional Darts Player said.
Van Gerwen’s struggles were compounded by a shoulder injury sustained in Berlin, forcing him to miss an event. The injury occurred while he was putting on a shirt.
Luke Humphries advanced to the semi-finals in Sheffield, defeating Rob Cross 6-4 and Chris Dobey 6-2.Dobey had previously rallied from a 4-0 deficit to beat Gerwyn Price 6-5.
