Premier Padel, the professional padel tour, is set to hold a P1 tournament in London, marking its first event in the United Kingdom. The tournament is scheduled to take place at Olympia London,following the venue’s recent renovations,and is backed by sponsorship from Sela and support from the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA).
David Sugden, CEO of Premier Padel, emphasized the significance of the UK market, stating the event “reflects the importance of its position in the global sporting landscape.” He highlighted London’s advantages, including its world-class venue, eager fanbase, and strong commercial opportunities, adding that the tournament will “showcase the sport’s leading professional players to passionate British fans.”
Sela’s Commitment to Padel and Fan Experience
sela International, the event’s sponsor, views the London tournament as a key step in its strategy to elevate padel. Stewart Hosford, CEO of Sela International, described the event as “a major statement of intent,” aiming to “create incredible experiences across sport and entertainment” and “set a new benchmark for padel in the UK.” Hosford underscored Sela’s long-term commitment to the sport, combined with the upgraded Olympia venue and LTA support, as crucial for building a prosperous event for fans, athletes, and the broader sporting community.
LTA’s Role in Growing Padel in Britain
The lawn Tennis Association (LTA) is actively supporting the tournament as part of its efforts to expand padel’s reach within the UK. Scott lloyd, CEO of the LTA, expressed pleasure in supporting Sela and Premier Padel, noting that the event will “strengthen the sport from grassroots participation to professional players.” Lloyd hopes the tournament will inspire increased participation in padel across Britain by showcasing the highest level of play.
Padel has seen meaningful growth in the UK in recent years. According to the LTA, the number of padel courts in Britain has increased dramatically, from 88 in 2018 to over 250 in 2023 (LTA, 2023). This growth is fueled by the sport’s accessibility and social nature.
