Copa del Rey Comes to Premier Sports
Premier Sports has secured exclusive broadcasting rights for the Copa del Rey throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland for the next three seasons. This expanded agreement includes live coverage beginning with the round of 32, offering fans thorough access to the prestigious Spanish cup competition.
The first matches scheduled for broadcast are set for December 16th and 17th, featuring Guadalajara versus FC Barcelona, Atlético Baleares against Atlético de Madrid, and Talavera de la Reina hosting real Madrid CF, all shown across Premier sports 1 and 2.Premier Sports has confirmed that every subsequent round, culminating in the final, will be broadcast live.
Strengthening Spanish Football Portfolio
This acquisition builds upon Premier Sports’ existing commitment to spanish football, following a new three-year deal signed earlier in 2023 to broadcast LALIGA and Spain’s second division. This strategic move reflects a growing appetite among UK audiences for European football, evidenced by record domestic viewership of international club content during the 2023/24 season.
According to Richard Sweeney, CEO of Premier Sports, the Copa del Rey deal substantially strengthens the channel’s Spanish football offerings and guarantees extensive coverage for viewers in both the UK and Ireland.
