Honolulu, Hawaii - Taiwan President Lai Ching-te arrived in Hawaii on November 30th as part of his “Prosperous South Island, Smart Sustainability” tour, focusing on strengthening ties with Pacific allies. During his two-night stay, President Lai will engage in a policy symposium at the East-West Center (EWC), a prominent US think tank.
President Lai’s visit to Hawaii comes amidst heightened geopolitical tensions in the Indo-Pacific region. His speech, titled “A Shared Future: Taiwan as a Partner for Peace and Prosperity in the Indo-Pacific Region,” will highlight Taiwan’s commitment to regional stability and cooperation.
“The symposium will be more like a fireside chat,” explained Guo Yahui, Presidential Office spokesperson. “After President Lai delivers an 8-minute speech, he will engage in a discussion with former AIT Chairman Mo James Moriarty and East-West center former Dean Richard Vuylsteck, moderated by East-West Center Dean Suzanne Vares-Lum.”
Following the symposium, President Lai will visit “Kualoa Ranch,” a popular filming location for Hollywood movies, offering a more relaxed experience during his brief stay.President Lai’s trip to Hawaii is a key stop on his broader tour, which also includes visits to Guam and palau.
