South Korean President Lee Jae Myung is set to participate in a virtual summit on maritime security hosted by the United Kingdom and France, focusing on freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, according to official statements from Seoul.
The presidential office confirmed on April 16, 2026, that President Lee will take part in the high-level talks led by French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, scheduled for late April 17 in Seoul time.
The virtual meeting aims to address the security of maritime routes through the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically vital passage for global energy supplies, with discussions expected to cover energy supply chains, positions on the Middle East situation, and international cooperation to safeguard maritime transit.
A senior official from Cheong Wa Dae stated that South Korea is positively reviewing the possibility of the president’s attendance, emphasizing that free and safe passage through the Strait serves national interests and aligns with efforts to coordinate with like-minded countries.
