President John Dramani Mahama, the African Union (AU) Champion for African Financial Institutions, traveled to Nairobi, Kenya, to participate in the Africa Forward Summit, a high-level meeting focused on the partnership between France and Africa.
According to a statement issued by the Presidency, the summit was organized by French President Emmanuel Macron. The event brought together global business leaders, international partners and African Heads of State to foster collaboration regarding economic resilience and sustainable development.
Industrialization and Energy Transition
As part of the summit’s agenda, President Mahama was scheduled to join a high-level discussion on Tuesday morning centered on Energy Transition and Green Industrialisation.

The session was designed to chart a strategic path for the industrial growth of Africa while addressing the challenges posed by the global climate crisis.
Reform of International Financial Architecture
Reflecting his strategic responsibilities as the AU Champion for African Financial Institutions, President Mahama participated in a working lunch focused on the Reform of the International Financial Architecture.
The Presidency statement noted that this specific discussion focused on ensuring the global financial system is more responsive to the unique needs of the African continent and is more equitable. A primary goal of the engagement was to improve the access of African countries to sustainable financing.
Global Health and the Accra Reset Initiative
Beyond economic and financial engagements, President Mahama co-chaired a Round Table on Health. This engagement is linked to his leadership of the Accra Reset Initiative.
The Round Table, titled Rethinking global health and building resilient national health systems
, aimed to address the development of more durable health infrastructures.
Bilateral Diplomatic Engagements
On the sidelines of the Africa Forward Summit, President Mahama held several high-profile bilateral meetings with leaders of major international organizations.
These meetings included discussions with the following officials:
- António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations
- Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF)
- Alvaro Lario, President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)
The Presidency stated that these consultations focused on economic stability, global cooperation, and food security within Africa and Ghana.
President Mahama was expected to depart Nairobi on the evening of Tuesday to return to Accra.
