President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he is extending the ceasefire with Iran until the country’s leaders can submit a unified peace proposal, while maintaining the U.S. Naval blockade of Iranian ports.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that the United States had been asked to hold its attack on Iran until Iranian leaders and representatives could come up with a unified proposal. He said he had therefore directed the military to continue the blockade and remain ready and able, and would extend the ceasefire until such time as the proposal is submitted and discussions are concluded, one way or the other.

The announcement came as the chances for talks between the two sides were growing increasingly dim. Trump also confirmed he would continue the naval blockade of Iranian ports, a move that Iran’s leaders have called “an act of war.”

Vice President JD Vance was expected to leave for Islamabad, Pakistan, on Tuesday morning to lead a U.S. Delegation in talks with Iran. However, the trip was called off as U.S. Officials awaited a plan from the Iranians. Tehran expressed frustration with American leaders and said it had not decided whether it would send diplomats to Pakistan at all.

Trump also contended that Iran is collapsing financially and wants the Strait of Hormuz opened immediately. Iran’s parliamentary speaker subsequently maintained that a complete ceasefire only makes sense if it is not violated by the maritime blockade and if the Zionist warmongering across all fronts is halted.

On Tuesday, Trump extended the ceasefire and vowed to continue the U.S. Blockade on Iranian ports. The Treasury Department also announced new sanctions aimed at disrupting procurement networks behind Iranian drone and missile programs, placing sanctions on 14 individuals, entities, and aircraft based in Iran, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates for their involvement in procuring or transporting weapons or weapons components on behalf of the Iranian regime.

The extension of the ceasefire comes amid uncertainty over peace negotiations, with Trump stating there is no time frame for the conflict with Iran and rejecting suggestions that political considerations are influencing his approach. Earlier, his spokesperson said the president does not view Iran’s assertion that it seized two ships in the Strait of Hormuz as a violation of the ceasefire.

Trump has sounded positive about new peace talks despite uncertainty over Tehran’s participation, saying “We’re going to end up with a great deal” and that Iran had “no choice” but to send a delegation to Pakistan. Despite conflicting reports, a White House official said that Vice President JD Vance will not be traveling to Pakistan today.
