Prime Minister Modi Endorses ‘The Sabarmati Report’: A Controversial Look at Gujarat’s 2002 Events

November 17, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor Entertainment

Prime Minister Narendra Modi endorsed the film The Sabarmati Report. This film, produced by Ektaa Kapoor, focuses on the burning of the Sabarmati Express in 2002, which resulted in the deaths of 59 people, and the subsequent Godhra riots. At that time, Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

In response to a post on X by @alok_bhat discussing the film’s merits, Modi commented, “Well said. It is good that this truth is coming out, and that too in a way common people see it. A fake narrative can persist only for a limited period of time. Eventually, facts will always come out.”

The film stars Vikrant Massey and was released on November 15, 2024. It depicts the events in Gujarat during 2002, which have been a point of contention and legal disputes. Modi’s views on these events differ from those of his critics.

The Sabarmati Report offers viewers a chance to understand this significant event through cinema.
