Prime Video Cancels ‘Étoile’ Ballet Series After One Season
Updated June 07, 2025
Prime Video has canceled Étoile, the ballet-themed series created by Amy Sherman-Palladino and daniel Palladino, after just one season. The show, starring Luke Kirby and Charlotte Gainsbourg, premiered in late April to generally favorable reviews. All eight episodes were released simultaneously, a less common practice for Amazon’s original programming.
The ballet series, which follows directors of prestigious ballet companies, received a two-season commitment in 2023 under the previous Amazon MGM Studios leadership. Jennifer Salke, who greenlit the show, departed from her role in March, a month before “Étoile” debuted.
Despite the initial order, Sherman-Palladino and Palladino hinted at uncertainty regarding a second season in an April interview with Variety. They served as writers, directors, and executive producers for Étoile, under their overall deal with Amazon Studios signed in 2019.
What’s next
The cancellation raises questions about the future direction of Amazon’s original programming strategy and the fate of other series greenlit under the previous studio administration.
