Former Prince Andrew Arrested Over Suspected Misconduct in Public Office
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the former British prince, was arrested on Thursday, February 19, 2026, on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The arrest comes after revelations stemming from the Jeffrey Epstein files, according to reports.
King Charles III’s younger brother, who was stripped of his royal titles due to his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, was taken into custody on his 66th birthday. The arrest followed calls from an anti-royal organization for police to investigate documents suggesting Andrew shared confidential government information with Epstein during his time as a British trade envoy.
Thames Valley Police confirmed they were assessing claims against Mountbatten-Windsor that emerged in the latest release of Epstein files by the U.S. Justice Department to determine whether a formal investigation was warranted. On Thursday, the force confirmed the arrest of a man in his sixties from Norfolk, stating they were also carrying out searches at addresses in Berkshire, and Norfolk.
Police arrived at Wood Farm, Andrew’s new residence on King Charles’ Sandringham estate in Norfolk, at approximately 8 a.m. Local time. Reuters reported that police were also seen at Royal Lodge, Mountbatten-Windsor’s former residence on the royal family’s Windsor estate near London.
The man was subsequently released under investigation, meaning he is free to go without restrictions while the investigation continues. Police stated that the searches in Norfolk had concluded.
While Andrew has consistently denied any wrongdoing in connection with his friendship with Epstein, concerns about his links to the late financier have persisted for over a decade. The arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing scrutiny of his associations.
Following the arrest, King Charles III issued a statement indicating that the law must take its course and reassured the British public of his continued service. The statement did not elaborate further on the matter.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as the inquiry progresses. The arrest has reignited public debate surrounding the allegations against Mountbatten-Windsor and the royal family’s handling of the Epstein affair.
