A man was arrested for the shooting that hurt a popular local chef and a woman last year in Hyattsville, Maryland.

Tobias Dorzon, who owns two restaurants in Prince George’s County, and a companion were shot multiple times as they returned home from a night out in November. They both survived the shooting.

Seven months later, Devin Demetrius Spivey was arrested and charged with first- and second-degree attempted murder and numerous other charges, according to charging documents.

Charging documents said location data from Spivey’s cell phone matches up with the location of the stolen white Infinity involved in the shooting.

Surveillance video shows the Infinity following the black SUV that Dorzon and the other victim were riding in before someone got out and opened fire.

Dorzon is a former NFL player turned celebrity chef who owns 1123 in Hyattsville and Huncho House just down the street. He’s been featured on the Food Network and won awards.

A celebrity chef shot and wounded in a robbery in November returned to the job for the first time Thursday. He spoke with News4’s Darcy Spencer.

“My life flashed in front of my eyes, you know,” Dorzon said a couple of months after the shooting. “Just faith, man. Just having faith in God, and just knowing that it was something more here for me.”

“In that moment, you know, you’re just thinking that’s pretty much it,” he said.

Gunmen fired at Dorzon and the woman with semiautomatic weapons just after 10 p.m. after they stepped out of a Cadillac Escalade. The shooters jumped out of a white SUV and fired dozens of shots. Dorzon was struck multiple times and robbed after he’d fallen to the ground.

In January, Dorzon was still re-learning how to walk after the shooting.

“Just blessed to be here, honestly,” he said. “God has a plan for me, and the fact that I’m still here is a blessing.”
