Finance Forum in Monaco, he emphasized the critical state of marine life and the necessity for immediate, thorough
action to boost the blue economy.
Addressing environmentalists, scientists, and investors, Prince William spoke in both English and French, outlining the stakes
for the world’s oceans.He noted that healthy oceans are essential, generating half the world’s oxygen, regulating climate,
and feeding over 3 billion people. Rising temperatures, pollution, and overfishing pose significant threats.
The forum precedes the UN Ocean Conference in Nice, France, focusing on oceans’ role in global trade, food security, and
sustainable energy. Prince William acknowledged the challenges investors face in the blue economy, urging them to recognize
it’s potential for ecosystems, economies, and communities.
As founder of the Earthshot Prize,which awards £1 million for climate solutions,Prince William highlighted the work of
finalist Enric Sala,known for his marine life protection efforts. He also referenced Sir David Attenborough’s film,
“Oceans,” calling it a compelling argument for immediate action.
“The truth is that healthy oceans are essential to all life on earth. They generate half of the world’s oxygen, regulate our
climate and provide food for more than three billion people,” Prince William said.
Prince William quoted Sir David Attenborough, stating, “If we save the sea, we save our world.” Kensington Palace described the
speech as a landmark intervention, aiming to drive change and investment in ocean solutions. During his visit, Prince William
met with President chavez of Costa Rica, President Macron of France, and Prince Albert of Monaco.
