Atlassian Expands Trello with New AI Features and Enhancements
The California-based software company Atlassian is rolling out significant updates to its popular Kanban tool, Trello. These enhancements include an AI-based inbox, a redesigned organizational system, and a calendar feature. The goal is to boost productivity for users who rely on Trello for project management. Currently, these new features are in a closed beta test, with a full release planned for April.

AI Sorts Tasks from the Mailbox
Trello users can now collect tasks from various sources and store them in their inbox. On iOS devices, tasks can be added to Trello via Siri voice commands. Alternatively, manual input is possible directly in the Android or iOS app. Users can also integrate Slack messages into their mailbox using an app shortcut with the “save later” function or via emoji reactions. Additionally, emails can be forwarded directly to the Trello inbox, and Jira tickets with specific keywords or filters can be incorporated into Trello boards.
A new AI feature in Trello, dubbed “Trello Ki,” analyzes the raw text of tasks stored in the inbox, extracting due dates, action items, and priorities. Users can then organize these tasks using predefined lists such as “to-dos” or “in progress,” or create custom lists with personal labels, checklists, and automation. The flexibility of Trello cards allows them to be displayed on multiple boards, with changes synchronized across all boards.
Planner: Calendar with Google Integration
With the introduction of the Trello Planner, Atlassian is integrating a calendar into the software. This calendar can be linked to Google Calendar, enabling users to view their appointments and tasks in parallel. Tasks from the inbox or lists can be transferred to the calendar, creating new appointments or assigning them to existing ones. Further integration with Microsoft Outlook is also planned, benefiting users who rely on Outlook for their calendar needs. This feature is particularly useful for Americans managing tight schedules, such as parenterpreneurs and business professionals balancing work and family commitments
The collection of tasks from emails and Slack messages, as well as the mailbox, is part of the free Trello package. The basic calendar functionalities, including a comprehensive view, are also included free of charge. Users looking for more advanced features, including the ability to transfer tasks to the calendar, can opt for the standard package priced at $5 per month. This package offers a full version of the Trello Planner, which facilitates seamless integration of tasks and appointments.
Plus, Planned compatibility with Microsoft Outlook will synergize effortlessly with the productivity workflows of US enterprise-level firms that leverage Outlook as their primary calendar and email application. Trello’s forth-coming Microsoft Outlook integration will facilitate this newfound efficiency by allowing Trello users to import Outlook emails into their Trello projects, harmonizing team STRENGTHS with Google’s G Suite and Microsoft’s Outlook-oriented Ecosystems.
