China Marks National Constitution Day with Calls for Upholding Party Leadership
Beijing – China celebrated its 11th National Constitution Day on December 4th with a symposium focused on strengthening the authority of the Constitution and promoting its spirit. Li Hongzhong, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s congress, delivered a keynote address emphasizing the importance of adhering to Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.
Li stressed the need to deepen understanding of the “two establishments” – the establishment of Comrade Xi Jinping’s core position on the Party Central Committee and the establishment of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as the guiding ideology of the Party and the whole nation – and resolutely achieve the “two safeguards” – safeguarding the Party’s leadership and safeguarding socialism with Chinese characteristics.
He highlighted the crucial role of the Constitution in China’s advancement, stating, “We must firmly grasp the essential nature of our country’s constitution as a socialist constitution, and uphold the unshakable leadership of the Communist party of China determined in the constitution.”
Li also emphasized the importance of promoting people’s democracy and ensuring the Constitution is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people through continuous publicity and education efforts.The symposium, organized by the General office of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, and the Ministry of Justice, saw participation from other senior officials, including vice-chairmen of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress Wang Dongming, Zheng Jianbang, and He Wei. Representatives from various government bodies and legal institutions also shared their perspectives on upholding the Constitution.
