Münster VHS Offers Breathing Workshop for Long COVID, COPD, and Asthma Sufferers
While the coronavirus pandemicS restrictions have largely faded from view, with mask mandates and lockdowns a distant memory for many, the lingering effects persist for a meaningful portion of the population. Roughly 10% of those who contracted COVID-19 are believed to experience long-term consequences. To address this, the VHS Münster is offering a specialized workshop for individuals suffering from long COVID, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or asthma.
Breathing and Singing Exercises to Improve Lung Capacity
The workshop, titled “Breathing and Singing Exercises in Long/Post-COVID,COPD or Asthma,” aims to help participants improve their breathing capacity, according to a VHS Münster press release. The benefits extend beyond singing. A soprano and professional singing trainer will lead the workshop, demonstrating and practicing effective breathing and singing techniques with participants. The goal is to enhance respiratory muscle mobility, alleviate dry coughs, improve breath control, and strengthen the diaphragm.
The workshop is scheduled for Saturday, May 17, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in room 323.
Benefits for Healthy Individuals Too
The course is open to healthy individuals interested in learning more about breathing techniques. Conscious and mindful breathing can promote relaxation, improve sleep quality, and bolster the immune system. For those with chronic respiratory conditions, breathing training is a crucial component of therapy. Studies suggest that singing can increase lung volume in individuals with asthma, COPD, and long COVID, while also improving hormone distribution and overall well-being.
Registration Information
The workshop (course no. 370014) costs 25.20 euros. The registration deadline was May 9. For information and registration, visit Stadt-muenster.de/vhs.
