Proposal Sent: Man Asks Fiancée to Marry Him After Shared Home
Alison Curtis reflects on Her “Relaxed” Wedding Day and Music-Filled Memories
Alison Curtis, the familiar voice behind Today FM’s Weekend Breakfast, recently shared intimate details about her wedding day, a celebration marked by personal touches, cherished family moments, and, of course, a deep love for music.
A Soundtrack too Love: Music as a Central Theme
For Curtis and her husband, Anton, music wasn’t just background noise; it was the very foundation of their relationship. “Music was a big connection,” Curtis explained, recalling how they met at a gig in Whelan’s. Her husband’s involvement in bands and her own past as a DJ cemented their shared passion. The wedding day itself was a testament to this love affair with music. Curtis walked down the aisle to a Ben Folds Five song, a poignant choice that resonated with her. The recessional was met with the uplifting sounds of Arcade Fire, both performed by a pianist in the chapel.
The reception’s playlist was a carefully curated blend of personal favourites and crowd-pleasers, ensuring “all our favorite songs on ther but also some dance songs for the older generation, a bit of Elvis thrown in.” While the music was a hit, Curtis admitted a slight regret: “not getting a DJ for the reception.” She believes a DJ could have elevated the atmosphere further, despite the evident enjoyment of the guests. The couple’s first dance was a deeply meaningful rendition of Bruce Springsteen’s “Tougher Than The Rest.” Springsteen holds a special place in Curtis’s heart, a love that began in her teenage years and was reciprocated by her husband. “He loved Bruce as much as me,” she shared, highlighting this shared adoration as a important bond.
Cherished Family Moments: The Heart of the Celebration
Beyond the music, the wedding day was rich with emotional family connections. Curtis vividly remembers her uncle, who was 93 when he passed away last year, walking her down the aisle. “he was very, very touched when I asked him to walk me down the aisle,” she recalled. A particularly tender memory involves a quiet, calm moment with her uncle and sister in the room before the ceremony, a snapshot of familial love that remains etched in her mind. The celebrations didn’t end with the reception. The party continued in a more intimate setting, with the couple and their guests moving to one of her aunt’s rooms at the venue. Later, around 1:30 am, Curtis and Anton retreated to their suite, cherishing a moment of quiet intimacy after the day’s festivities.
The following day offered another cherished memory: a relaxed gathering at her aunt’s place. Curtis fondly remembers still wearing their nice outfits, a testament to the enduring spirit of the celebration. this post-wedding gathering was a surprise wedding gift, organized by her cousins, Curtis and Trevor, who are like brothers to her. This thoughtful gesture underscored the warmth and love that surrounded their special day.
Alison Curtis’s wedding day, nearly 18 years ago, stands out as a beautiful blend of personal passion and profound family connection, a day where music and love harmonized perfectly.
