The hip hop group Prospekti, hailing from Salaspils, along with a host of musicians including og montekarlo,Flabbijs,edoo0,lagans,Jshawn,Decs,and klaids, might not instantly ring a bell for the wider public. However, the lineup also includes well-known figures like Xantikvariāts, Kjuumanis, and Kaizers. Now, it’s time to get acquainted with Prospekti, as the collective has just released their debut album, featuring 24 tracks created over a three-year period.
The album title, “Biļete uz vienu galu” (Ticket to One End), draws inspiration from Kaizers’ first song, “Salaspils prospekti,” released in 2004. The chorus begins with the line, “šī biļete ir uz vienu galu – Salaspils prospekti” (this ticket is to one end – Salaspils prospects). The vision for the album emerged three years ago, and the readiness process took just as long. The majority of the audio material was produced in Prospekti’s own studio, “Prospekti HQ.” Last summer,Prospekti organized a creative camp, where they created eight of the album’s compositions, effectively “finishing” the compilation of material accumulated over the years.
“Albuma tēmas apvij ielu dzīves romantizēšanu un attieksmes, rakstura izrādīšanu pret autoritāti un konkurentiem. Lielākā daļa dziesmu ir rakstītas ar reprezentatīvu nolūku. “Prospekti” ir par dzīves baudīšanu, tādēļ, gatavojot pirmo albumu, mums bija maksimāla nepatika pret nopietnām tēmām.”
Kjuumanis
“Biļete uz vienu galu” comprises two dozen tracks, mixed and mastered by Prospekti’s prominent members,Kaizers and Xantikvariāts. Beats were crafted by Xantikvariāts, prxmvc, Merkuurijs, edoo0, KayJay, dotConcept, Oblivioz, as well as several foreign beatmakers. The songs also feature short, comedic spoken-word segments, or skits, performed by Andris Freidenfelds, also known as Fredis. All Prospekti members participate in the album, along with three guest artists: Steps, Hotte, and DJ PM2AM, who provided sound effects or scratches on the track “Šņabis uz pohām” (Booze for a Hangover).
Prospekti is introduced on the hip hop scene with a more aggressive sound, but to the untrained ear, they seem close to the American style. Perhaps somewhat monotonous, yet sufficiently interesting. For example, songs like ”Koka lapā” (In a Tree Leaf), “Darbarīki” (Tools), “Pastarā diena” (Doomsday), “Šņabis uz pohām” (Booze for a Hangover), and/or “Poh**” can be listened to and enjoyed, while if you want something silly, there’s the song “Rastaklāds”! Listening to the entire album from start to finish in one sitting can be quite challenging, as the total length is almost an hour and a half, and there’s generally no desire to listen to it repeatedly. A ticket in one direction, that is, to one end.
(In their debut album, Prospekti present themselves boldly, impolitely, yet also wittily, with their own slang and freedom in their expressions. The rappers play with boundaries, not afraid of being misunderstood and testing the listener’s psychological resilience. Harsh insights from the streets alternate with self-deprecation and humor, revealing everyday life and scenes from the darkest corners of the mind in the lyrics.)
Prospekti’s beginnings trace back to 2011, when Klaids, Kjuumanis, Flabbijs, and another friend who is no longer in the group began writing rap together. To date, Prospekti has most notably marked themselves with the single and music video “Shadownieki,” which has a total of more than 600,000 listens and views on “YouTube” and “Spotify.”
(Prospekti cannot be considered strictly a union – most of us are childhood friends and started rapping together. We can be called a group, but Prospekti is also a movement. We are represented in the boxing industry, and we also promote our brand to engage in other creative expressions – clothing design, visual entertainment, etc.)
