Montana Hospital to Close Family Maternity Center

Providence St. patrick Hospital in Missoula, Mont., plans to shutter its family maternity center, according to a statement released June 4. A Providence spokesperson attributed the decision to “current and anticipated challenges facing the healthcare industry,” impacting the hospital’s ability to maintain the program.
The hospital, part of the Renton, Wash.-based Providence system, also cited declining birth rates and persistent workforce shortages as contributing factors to the closure.These external forces have made it increasingly difficult to sustain the maternity center.
To ensure a smooth transition for expectant mothers, Providence St. Patrick is collaborating with Western montana Clinic and Community Medical Center, both located in Missoula. The goal is to maintain uninterrupted access to labor and delivery services within the community,addressing concerns about maternity care access.
“Because the needs of our community can be met with one labor and delivery program, we are working closely with Western Montana Clinic and community Medical center [both in Missoula] to ensure uninterrupted care for expectant mothers,” the spokesperson said.
