PlayStation 6 Handheld Console: specs Hint at Cutting-Edge Tech
Updated June 13, 2025
Whispers of a “low energy” mode for upcoming PlayStation consoles have sparked speculation about the potential
specs for a PlayStation 6 handheld console. While official details remain scarce, industry insiders suggest
Sony is developing a powerful handheld to complement its next-generation home console.
The rumored PlayStation handheld is expected to feature a custom AMD APU, potentially based on the next-gen
gfx13 (RDNA5/UDNA) architecture. This APU could include 16GB of DDR5 memory, 4MB of L2 cache, and 16MB of MALL
cache on the graphics tile, according to reports. The inclusion of MALL cache could reduce the need for
extensive memory bandwidth, boosting graphics power despite constrained RAM.

KeplerL2, an AMD leaker, noted the APU’s architecture aligns with expectations for a fall 2027 launch. The
current PlayStation consoles use an APU with 4MB of L2 cache but lack MALL cache.
The new AMD APU will have AI upscaling features. This suggests that the PlayStation handheld will not be powered by AMD’s Ryzen AI Z2 lineup.
Oh this is 100% an emulated performance profile for the Handheld, since the biggest weakness of that APU is memory bandwidth and this profile is reducing PS5 bandwidth in half as you said.June 6, 2025
What’s next
While the PlayStation 6 console is anticipated in September 2027, the handheld version is expected to launch
around the same time. However, these plans remain subject to change, and Sony could alter its strategy as the
launch date approaches.
