PS5 Update: DualSense Controller Enhancements Revealed
PS5 DualSense Controllers Can Now Connect to Four Devices Simultaneously

Sony is rolling out a significant update for its PlayStation 5 DualSense wireless controller, introducing the highly anticipated feature of multi-device Bluetooth pairing. This enhancement will allow users to seamlessly switch their controller between up to four different devices without the need for re-pairing each time.
The Frustration of Single Device Pairing
Previously, a DualSense controller could only be paired with one Bluetooth device at a time. This meant that if you paired your controller with an iPad,as an example, you would have to go through the entire pairing process again if you wanted to use it with your PS5 or PC. This limitation proved to be a considerable inconvenience for gamers who utilize their controllers across multiple platforms.
Seamless Multi-Device Connectivity Arrives
The new update addresses this issue by enabling the DualSense controller to pair with up to four devices simultaneously. This means you can now connect your controller to your PS5, a PC or Mac, a tablet, and a smartphone, and switch between them effortlessly. No more tedious re-pairing processes when you want to jump from gaming on your console to playing a mobile game or using your tablet.
How DualSense Multiple Pairing Works
Sony has implemented a clever system for managing these multiple connections. The four available device slots are directly linked to the controller’s face buttons: triangle, circle, square, and cross. To pair the controller with a new device, you’ll press and hold the PlayStation button along with your chosen action button. Once paired, switching back to that device is as simple as pressing the same action button for three seconds.
This functionality extends to connecting to two separate PS5 consoles, such as a standard PS5 and a PS5 Pro. By pressing the dedicated button, you can hot-swap the DualSense between these consoles with ease.
As a visual cue, the controller’s light bar will blink a corresponding number of times (one to four) after you press an action button, indicating which device slot you are currently connected to.
the new system software beta for PS5 is currently available to invited participants, with a wider release planned for a “later date.”
Introducing Power Saver Mode
In addition to the multi-device pairing, the upcoming update will also introduce a Power Saver mode. This feature will allow users to reduce the controller’s performance in supported games, thereby conserving battery life. This initiative aligns with Sony’s “Road to Zero” environmental plan, offering players an optional way to be more energy-conscious while gaming.
