PSG Soar to the Top: Messi’s Magic Sparks Lille Demolition with Stunning Hat-Trick
Paris Saint-Germain Takes the Lead in French Football League
Paris Saint-Germain secured a 3-1 win over Lille at the end of their third-round match on Sunday, taking the lead in the French football league.
The Lille side started strong, with Bafoud Diakite’s shot bouncing off the right post in the 12th minute. However, Paris Saint-Germain responded with a powerful shot from international winger Ousmane Dembele into the chest of Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier in the 16th minute.
Paris went ahead in the 33rd minute with the first goal scored by Portuguese midfielder Vitiner from Ousmane Dembele’s penalty kick after Lille defender Alexandru was blocked. Three minutes later, Bradley Barcola added a second goal for the visitors after an exchange of balls with his colleague Marco Asensio, scoring his fourth goal in the league this season.
Lille tried to reduce the deficit before the end of the first half, but Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma blocked Thiago Santos’ chance in the 42nd minute. In the second half, Lille missed several close-range efforts by players Thiago Santos, Mohamed Bayou, and Alexandre, while Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier blocked a powerful shot from Asensio in the 53rd minute.
Lille finally scored in the 78th minute when Kosovo player Idon Zegrovar’s shot into Donnarumma’s left corner reduced the deficit. However, their hopes of an equalizer were dashed when Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology intervened to deny the home side a goal for offside in the 81st minute.
The excitement continued as Saint-Germain scored the third goal, assisted by substitute Desiree Dou, who played in a cross that Randall Kolo Mwani headed into the net in the second minute of stoppage time. Although Canadian Jonathan David scored a second goal against Paris in the sixth minute of stoppage time, it was not enough to change the outcome, and the referee blew the final whistle, declaring a third straight win for Saint-Germain.
With this win, Paris Saint-Germain takes the lead in the French football league with nine points, while Lille falls to sixth place with six points.
