Iman Khalif, the Algerian boxer who won the 66kg gold medal at the Paris Olympics, has filed a lawsuit over media reports claiming he “has male chromosomes” based on leaked medical records released by the International Olympic Committee.
Reports in France this week claimed that Khalif (aged 25) “has male chromosomes.” However, Khalif has been subject to controversy over his gender identity since arriving in Paris due to a suspension by the International Boxing Federation.
Despite the controversy, Khalif reached the weight final, where he defeated Chinese Liu Yang by unanimous decision of the judges 5-0, and became the first Algerian and African boxer to win gold at the Olympic Games.
The International Olympic Committee has stated that they are aware of Khalif’s lawsuit and are preparing a response to recent reports. The committee also emphasized that Khalif has competed in the women’s division in international competitions “for many years,” including the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and the International Boxing Federation World Championships.
Iman Khalif Announces Upcoming Documentary Film
Algerian Olympic champion Iman Khalif has revealed that a documentary film detailing his story and life will soon be released on international platforms.
The International Olympic Committee has concluded that it “regrets the abuse that Iman Khalifa is currently being subjected to.” Khalif has also filed a complaint in France alleging online harassment.
