Islamabad Police Arrests PTI Leaders Amid Red Zone Lockdown
Islamabad Police have taken into custody several key leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, including National Assembly Member Zain Qureshi, Sheikh Waqas Akram, MNA Naseem-ur-Rehman, Shah Ahmed Khattak, and Sahibzada Hamid Raza of the Sunni Etihad Council. The arrests were made from inside the Parliament House.
According to police officials, Umar Ayub and Zartaj Gul are also expected to be arrested. The police have sealed off the Red Zone, closing all entry and exit points from D Chowk, Nadra Chowk, Serena, and Marriott.
Ali Muhammad Khan, however, was seen leaving the Parliament House without being arrested. Initially, a list of 9 PTI leaders was prepared for arrest.
The PTI has accused certain parties of undermining democracy, stating that those who claim ‘democracy is the best revenge’ and ‘respect the vote’ are, in fact, killing democracy by aligning themselves with undemocratic forces.
This development comes after the Islamabad Police arrested PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, Sher Afzal Marwat, and Shoaib Shaheen yesterday. Barrister Gohar and Sher Afzal Marwat were taken into custody outside the Parliament House, while Sher Afzal Marwat’s bodyguard was also arrested.
Advocate Shoaib Shaheen, a Tehreek-e-Insaf leader, was arrested by the Islamabad Police from his office. Sources confirm that Barrister Gohar, Shoaib Shaheen, and Sher Afzal Marwat have been arrested, along with Zain Qureshi, Zartaj Gul, Sheikh Waqas, Samabia Tahir, and Umar Ayub. Aamir Mughal’s name is also on the list of those to be arrested.
