A large rock initially mistaken for ⁣gold has turned out to be ⁣a rare and valuable treasure, captivating attention in australia. the discovery, made ‍in 2015, remained a puzzle for years ⁣until⁣ its true nature was revealed.

David Hole ⁣found the unusual rock⁢ in⁤ maryborough Regional Park, near Melbourne, Australia.he brought the heavy specimen ‍home ⁤and attempted to break it ‍open, according to a report‍ by CNBC Indonesia.

Hole tried numerous methods to ⁣access the rock’s interior, including using ⁢saws, grinders, drills, and even acid. His efforts proved⁣ unsuccessful until geologists from Victoria’s Gold Museum examined ‍the rock. They determined it contained approximately 800 grams (28 ounces) of gold.

“It’s just… unbelievable,” Hole told⁢ ABC News Australia. “I nearly threw it away so many times.”

The rock is believed ⁣to be a naturally formed specimen, not a manufactured gold nugget. ‍Experts suggest the gold ⁤formed within the rock over millions of years. The‍ find is valued at over $600,000 AUD (approximately $400,000‍ USD ‍as of January 19, 2026), according to Smithsonian Magazine.

Hole and his wife have decided to display the ⁣rock at the Gold museum, allowing the public to⁢ view this extraordinary geological ⁣find.
