West Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Ltd (WAMUL), which operates the Purabi Dairy brand, reported a 33 per cent increase in its annual turnover for the 2025-26 financial year. On April 11, 2026, the cooperative announced that its turnover reached Rs 400 crore, rising from Rs 306 crore in the 2024-25 fiscal year.
The growth was driven by an expanded farmer base and strategic entry into new markets. The cooperative now includes more than 58,000 dairy farmers across Assam.
Operational Expansion and Procurement
WAMUL increased its milk procurement capabilities during the financial year. Average milk procurement rose to 1.6 lakh litres per day (LLPD), with peak procurement levels exceeding 2 LLPD.
To support this increase in volume and maintain quality standards, the cooperative expanded its infrastructure through the following developments:
- The organization of more than 900 new Dairy Cooperative Societies (DCS), bringing the total number of societies in the Purabi network to over 1,600.
- The establishment of 11 new Bulk Milk Cooling Centres (BMC), increasing the total number of these facilities to 59.
Product Performance and Market Diversification
North East Dairy and Foods Limited (NEDFL), the entity responsible for marketing Purabi Dairy products, reported a 48 per cent growth in product volume on a milk equivalent basis. Pouch milk volume specifically grew by 10 per cent.

Value-added products provided significant momentum to the cooperative’s growth. Curd volume recorded a 49 per cent increase, which the cooperative attributed to the introduction of new stock-keeping units (SKUs), including sweet curd in pouches and 1 kg pouch curd.
The cooperative also diversified its product portfolio by introducing new categories, including:
- Ice cream
- Flavoured milk
- Purabi Smart UHT tetra pack milk
Geographic Reach
Purabi Dairy expanded its geographical footprint during the 2025-26 period. The cooperative entered new markets, including the Barak Valley, and strengthened its existing presence in eastern Assam.
