ST.LOUIS,April 28,2025 – Understanding the nutritional needs of dogs and cats, and effectively communicating that knowledge to pet owners, can significantly improve animal health and benefit veterinary practices. To support veterinary professionals in these crucial discussions, the Purina Institute is continuing its “Creating Collaborative Care Through Nutrition Conversations” webinar series.
Webinar Series Enters Fourth Year
Now in its fourth year, the webinar series will feature four sessions scheduled for May 15, July 17, Sept. 11 and Dec. 4, 2025.
According to research, veterinarians are considered the most reliable source of nutrition advice by pet owners. Furthermore, a survey revealed that 78% of pet owners consider nutritional expertise an “important” or “extremely important” factor when evaluating their satisfaction with a veterinary clinic.
Dr. Natalia Wagemans, global head of the Purina Institute, noted a discrepancy: “Despite the clear importance of veterinarians in advising clients, only one in five proactively offer nutrition advice during most visits. This indicates a potential gap in recognizing the significance of nutrition to clients and a missed opportunity for dietary counseling.”
Addressing the Nutrition Advice Gap
The “Creating Collaborative Care Through Nutrition conversations” webinars, launched in 2021, aim to bridge this gap. The annual series provides practical strategies for veterinary teams to integrate nutrition discussions into the medical, nutritional, and behavioral management of common health issues in cats and dogs. Each webinar lasts 60 minutes.
