United States President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the ongoing wars in Iran and Ukraine during a 90-minute phone call on Wednesday, according to Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov. Putin welcomed Trump’s decision to extend a ceasefire in Iran, while the two leaders also explored a potential temporary ceasefire in Ukraine.
Ushakov told reporters that Putin expressed concern over the possibility of a U.S. Ground operation in Iran, viewing it as a dangerous escalation. He also stated that Putin offered to assist in removing buried uranium from Iran to Russia, an offer Trump declined, preferring Putin’s focus to be on resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
“Vladimir Putin considers Donald Trump’s decision to extend the ceasefire with Iran to be the right one, as this should give negotiations a chance and, help to stabilize the situation,” Ushakov said, as reported by The Moscow Times. Putin also “highlighted the inevitable and extremely damaging consequences not only for Iran and its neighbors, but also for the entire international community, should the U.S. And Israel resort to military action once again.”
Ukraine Ceasefire Discussion
Trump reportedly raised the issue of a potential deal to end the war in Ukraine during the call, reiterating his belief that a settlement is within reach. However, despite repeated U.S. Statements suggesting progress, the two sides remain far from a lasting agreement. Putin indicated his willingness to continue fighting until Ukraine cedes control of territories currently held by Russia in the Donbas region.
According to Ushakov, Trump requested an update on the situation along the line of contact in Ukraine, where Russian troops are reportedly making gains. Ushakov stated that Trump was informed that Russian forces are “holding the strategic initiative and pushing back the enemy’s positions.”
Iran and Russia’s Role
Russia has largely been sidelined in diplomatic efforts regarding the war in Iran, but Western intelligence agencies suggest Moscow continues to provide support to Iran, including intelligence and drones used to target U.S. Interests in the region. Trump described the conversation with Putin as “very good,” stating he has “known him a long time.”

The call between the two leaders comes as tensions remain high in the Middle East following the recent extension of the ceasefire in Iran. The Kremlin initiated the call, seeking to discuss the volatile situations in both Iran and Ukraine.
