Russian President Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President‌ Donald Trump spoke by phone Saturday,‌ focusing on the escalating ‍conflict between Israel and Iran and potential paths toward‌ a Ukraine settlement, ‍according to the Kremlin.

The conversation, ⁤the fourth between the ‍two leaders since Trump left office, ⁣signals a continued effort to‌ reset⁣ relations. The Kremlin emphasized the Middle East situation was “at the center of ‌the exchange,” following recent strikes between Israel and Iran. Putin reportedly offered Moscow’s services to mediate between Israel and iran,amid rising tensions.

Both⁤ leaders ⁣voiced concerns regarding the recent escalation but “did not⁣ rule out a return to negotiations on‌ Iran’s nuclear program,” the Kremlin stated. Putin also briefed Trump on the progress of agreements reached during the Russian and Ukrainian delegations’ meeting ⁤in Istanbul on June 2.

Putin told Trump that Russia is​ prepared to continue negotiations with Ukraine after June⁣ 22. Trump acknowledged this and “reiterated his interest ⁢in the swift resolution of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict,” the Kremlin said.

The two ‌leaders also acknowledged the “brotherhood in arms” between Russia and ‌the United ‍States during world War⁤ II, and Putin offered birthday congratulations to Trump.
