Russian President Putin’s call to increase birth rate
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent comments on increasing the country’s birth rate have sparked controversy.
According to foreign media reports, Putin has encouraged people to have sex at work, including during lunch and coffee breaks, in an effort to boost the country’s low birth rate. Russia’s current birth rate is approximately 1.5 children per woman, which is below the 2.1 children needed to maintain a stable population.
Putin has stated that the preservation of the Russian people is the country’s highest national priority, emphasizing that the fate of Russia depends on its population growth. This comes at a time when over 1 million Russians have left the country due to the ongoing war with Ukraine, with most of them being young people.
In response to the low birth rate, women between the ages of 18 and 40 in Moscow are being asked to undergo a ‘reproductive potential’ evaluation. Additionally, the cost of divorce cases has been significantly increased, and some politicians are encouraging people to start having children between the ages of 18 and 20 and have up to 3 to 4 children.

Putin’s comments on women’s roles in society
At a recent women’s forum, Putin stated that women can balance their careers and family responsibilities, emphasizing that they have secrets that men cannot understand.
The Russian Minister of Health, Yevgeny Shestopalov, has also commented on the issue, saying that being busy at work is not a valid excuse for not having children. He added that people should try to reproduce even during their free time.
Natalia Litovko, a female host on Russian state television, has revealed that she and her husband were inspired by Putin’s call to fulfill their patriotic duty and give birth.
