updated June 4, 2025
Pyx Health, a social health platform focused on addressing loneliness, has acquired FarmboxRx, a company specializing in delivering healthy food options. The deal, announced Tuesday, aims to tackle social determinants of health and was backed by a $47.5 million investment from S2G Investments and TT Capital partners.
Tucson-based Pyx Health partners with health plans, offering members companionship via phone calls and resources for physical, mental, and social well-being.Their mobile app features a chatbot, wellness activities, and medication reminders.
Boston-based FarmboxRx contracts with payers, primarily Medicare and Medicaid, to deliver produce boxes, cooking kits, and pantry staples directly to patients facing food insecurity. The acquisition will allow Pyx Health to directly address this critical need among its members, improving member engagement.
Cindy Jordan, CEO and co-founder of pyx health, emphasized the importance of building trust through addressing basic needs. “By offering fresh food to our members, Pyx Health seeks to establish a meaningful and trusting relationship,” Jordan said.”Research shows that members who trust the healthcare system are more likely to engage in healthy habits, like preventative care, that can improve their health outcomes.”
FarmboxRx recently launched Drivers Health, a platform that identifies social determinants of health and shares data with health plans. Jordan noted this platform aligns with Pyx Health’s advancement of an AI-enabled engagement platform.
Ashley Tyrner-Dolce, CEO of FarmboxRx, said pyx Health was the right fit after many offers. Tyrner-Dolce created the company based on her own experiences with food stamps and Medicaid, seeking to “empower individuals to live their healthiest lives by addressing the unmet social needs standing in the way of their well-being.”
“Pyx Health shares our mission at its core, making them the ideal institution to build on the foundation we’ve created,” Tyrner-Dolce said.
Tyrner-Dolce will transition to an advisory role, while Jordan will lead the combined company. Tyrner-Dolce plans to continue her work in food policy.
tyrner-Dolce believes the acquisition will expand their collective impact. ”By combining farmboxrx’s expertise in addressing non-medical drivers of health—like food insecurity—with Pyx Health’s innovative approach to tackling loneliness and supporting mental health, we’ll be able to reach more people, deepen member engagement, and drive stronger health outcomes, especially among vulnerable populations,” she said.
What’s next
The combined company will focus on integrating their services to provide a more comprehensive approach to addressing social determinants of health, aiming to improve member engagement and reduce healthcare costs.
