Quavo Atlanta Trauma Fund: Gun Violence Relief Effort
QuavoS Rocket Foundation Responds to Surge in Atlanta Gun Violence, Honors Takeoff’s Legacy
A recent surge in gun violence in Atlanta, leaving nearly 50 people shot over a four-day period, has deeply impacted the city and prompted a renewed response from Quavo’s Rocket Foundation. The foundation, established in memory of Takeoff, is stepping up its efforts to provide vital mental health resources to those affected by the ongoing crisis. This comes as the city grapples with a 16% increase in shootings week over week, despite a year-long trend of decreasing violence.
Atlanta Faces Alarming Spike in Gun Violence
The weekend of July 26th-29th saw a heartbreaking escalation of violence in Atlanta. Reports indicate 47 people were shot, tragically resulting in five fatalities. 11Alive News detailed the “surge” in shootings, highlighting the devastating impact on the community.
This recent outbreak is notably poignant for the Rocket Foundation, as two individuals closely connected to the organization were among the victims. Deshawn Johnson, an 18-year-old participant in the 2024 rocket Camp, and Aaron “Coach Ball” Hines, a respected Offender Alumni leader with the foundation, were both shot during the weekend. Their loss underscores the urgent need for intervention and support.
The Rocket Foundation: Honoring Takeoff Through Action
Quavo established the Rocket Foundation in November 2022 as a direct response to the senseless murder of his nephew and Migos member, Takeoff. Takeoff was tragically killed in a dispute at a bowling alley, leaving a void in the music world and a profound grief for his family and friends.
The foundation’s mission is to honor Takeoff’s life by actively working to prevent gun violence and address the trauma it inflicts. It achieves this by partnering with local non-profits that are already deeply involved in community-based initiatives. These partnerships allow the Rocket Foundation to maximize its impact and reach those most in need.
Here’s how the Rocket Foundation is making a difference:
mental Health resources: Providing access to counseling, therapy, and support groups for individuals and families affected by gun violence.
Community Programs: Supporting initiatives that address the root causes of violence, such as poverty, lack of opportunity, and systemic inequities.
Youth Progress: Investing in programs that empower young people and provide them with positive alternatives to violence.
Advocacy: Raising awareness about gun violence and advocating for sensible gun safety policies.
