Queen Latifah recently spoke out about experiencing body shaming from TV executives while starring in the hit show Living Single.The actress and musician revealed that network producers pressured her to lose weight, despite the show’s success, particularly among Black and Latino households.
Latifah,a prominent figure in entertainment,resisted the pressure. She emphasized the importance of representing real women with diverse body types. “I’m not losing a pound,” she told REVOLT, recalling her reaction to the request.
She defended the show’s authentic portrayal of four women from Brooklyn, each with their unique look. Latifah felt the producers’ request was misguided, especially given the show’s popularity and positive representation of Black women.
“We look like what real women look like. We are representing what four women from Brooklyn look like. And we all look diffrent from one to the next,” Latifah said.
