Quibelle AEG Sold to Ashford Farm, Upending U.S. Tour Plans

Quibelle AEG, a competitive showjumping mare co-owned by Belgian showjumper Grégory Wathelet, has been sold and will continue her career under the Ashford Farm banner.

The transaction completely alters a planned itinerary that would have brought the horse back to Wathelet’s stables following the Belgian Championship in Lanaken for a scheduled United States tour.

Commercial Goals Met After a Lifetime at the Yard

“The plan was indeed for Quibelle to come back to me after Lanaken and join me in the US,” Grégory Wathelet stated regarding the altered timeline.

“In the end, I am now only taking Argentina de la Marchette Z and Rebel van ‘t Zomerhof with me. Quibelle was ready for the next level, but our goal remained commercialization, so mission accomplished! She arrived at our yard as a foal and has completed her entire journey with us so far.”

A Final Partnership at the Belgian Championship

For rider Antoni Draga, the Belgian Championship in Lanaken served as the final competition aboard the mare.

“We had agreed that the Belgian Championship would be our last show together before she joined Grégory’s stables, but in the end, she was sold,” Draga noted.

“I am really happy because the contract is fulfilled. Quibelle is a mare with temper; I realized right away that building a special relationship with her was key.”

Milestone Performances and Grand Prix Success

Draga reflected on several milestone performances during their partnership, pointing to an early outing at the Sunshine Tour.

“I will always remember our first 1.50m on the big grass arena at the Sunshine Tour, where she jumped clear right away,” Draga said. “Then came our first 3* Grand Prix in Saint-Tropez—again clear—and the 4* in Cabourg. I remain convinced that this mare has not finished surprising us and still has great room for progression.”

Strong Maternal Line and Pedigree Credentials

The mare enters her next stable with established pedigree credentials. Quibelle AEG originates from a strong maternal line where her granddam serves as a maternal sister to known Darco descendants and international competitors Victor and Kalief.

Following her training and competition pipeline with Wathelet and Draga, the horse transitions directly to Ashford Farm to begin the next phase of her athletic career.
