Alfie Watts, the 22-year-old winner of the 2024 edition of Race Across the World, has continued his fast-paced lifestyle following his victory on the BBC show, maintaining a relentless schedule of travel, work and media engagements.
Since winning the race, which took him from Japan to Lombok, Indonesia, Watts has spent extensive time away from his home in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. Last year alone, he spent 192 days in hotels around the globe, amounting to more than half the year.
His schedule has remained non-stop into the current year, with recent activities including a day trip to Egypt’s Great Pyramids, canyoning in Madeira, and trekking through Bosnia. These adventures are often interspersed with professional commitments, such as his role as co-host of The Detour, the official BBC podcast about Race Across the World.
Watts has spoken openly about his aversion to downtime, describing it as “pointless” and explaining that he constantly seeks productivity even during rare moments of stillness. “The idea of just sitting down and not being productive… That idea just has never sat with me at all,” he said in a recent interview.
This mindset, he notes, is not merely a result of his TV fame but an evolution of the drive that initially led him to apply for the race. His hectic lifestyle has come at a personal cost, with some friendships fading since his return from Indonesia and little time left for dating.
Despite these sacrifices, Watts says he is channelling his restlessness into his goals, embracing a life of constant motion and purpose.
