Flood Situation in Chiang Rai: Rescuers Mobilize to Evacuate Stranded Villagers
Rescuers in Chiang Rai are working to evacuate elderly people and children stranded in the Koh Sai community after floodwaters began to recede.
Floodwaters Recede, Villagers Seek Help
On September 12, 2024, a reporter from Thairath TV reported that although it has not rained for about 4-5 hours, the Koh Sai community in Mae Sai district, Chiang Rai province, is still experiencing flooding. However, the water level has continued to decrease, prompting villagers who were stranded inside to start walking outside to seek help.
Some villagers reported running out of food and water, while others have started to return to their accommodations to inspect their homes and begin cleaning.
Rescue Efforts Underway
Rescue teams, including Por Tek Tung, Kan Jom Phalang, Ruamgratitude, the Navy, and other units, are rushing to help villagers, including moving the sick, children, and the elderly out of the area. Many villagers expressed gratitude to the officials who came to their aid, stating that the flood was the most severe they had experienced in 50 years.
In areas where the water is still high and flowing, villagers are waiting for help from officials. Some have started to run out of food, and officials are transporting food by boat and helicopter to reach those in need.
