The match began with immediate drama. Just two minutes in, Adrián Martínez capitalized on a defensive error, scoring to surpass Norberto Raffo as Racing’s all-time leading international goalscorer with 15 goals in Conmebol competitions. Agustín almendra nearly doubled the lead moments later with a powerful shot that narrowly missed the post.
