Gabriel Trifu Opens Up About His Sports Career and the Moment That Almost Made Him Quit Tennis

Gabriel Trifu, the captain of the Romanian Davis Cup team, shares his defining moments in the ALTCEVA podcast with Adrian Artene.

In the world of sports, moments of joy and tears often go hand in hand. Gabriel Trifu, a renowned tennis player, recently opened up about his experiences in the ALTCEVA podcast with Adrian Artene. He discussed the challenges he faced, including the moment that pushed him to consider quitting tennis for a while.

Gabriel Trifu’s Journey in Tennis

Gabriel Trifu is one of the most popular tennis players of all time. Since 2017, he has been the captain of the Romanian Davis Cup team. Throughout his career, he has faced numerous challenges, including injuries that have tested his resolve.

Overcoming Injuries and Finding Success in Doubles

Gabriel Trifu spoke about the injuries he suffered throughout his sporting career. The first time he injured his hip, which forced him to stop working for a month and a half. He then decided to try doubles, which proved to be a successful move. In just 7 months, he broke into the top 100 position in doubles.

“I injured my hip and stopped from that wave. I took a break for a month and a half. In training, everything was fine, but when we went into the game, the stops and the forwards were forced, and the problem with the hip appeared. Then I decided to try doubles. Everything was quieter, more comfortable, I had a partner. It was a pretty quick climb. I didn’t mind the hip problem. In 7 months, I broke the first 100 position. I found it very easy to access the doubles,” said Gabriel Trifu.

A Regrettable Exit from Tennis

Gabriel Trifu mentioned that he has one regret in his career – not being able to exit the world of tennis on his own terms. A health problem prevented him from returning to the field, and he was forced to undergo surgery to repair a detached cartilage in his elbow.

“I regretted the fact that I didn’t go out the way I wanted to go out of tennis. After many years, I kept my position, but I had already started the Tennis Academy…”, said Gabriel Trifu.
