Evouettes Tunnel Inaugurated, Set to Open to Traffic This Week
The Evouettes tunnel in the Chablais region of Switzerland was inaugurated on Saturday, September 14, 2024, with the first vehicles expected to use the new route beginning Friday, september 20, 2024.The project, costing over 133 million Swiss francs and spanning nearly eight years, aims to alleviate traffic congestion and improve the quality of life for residents of the Evouettes.
The new, bidirectional tunnel is designed to accommodate approximately 18,000 vehicles daily, diverting traffic away from the village route. Patrice Tamborini, president of Port-Valais, highlighted the added value this provides to the local community.
