The upcoming fourth installment of The Mummy franchise, featuring the return of Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz as Rick and Evelyn O’Connell, has had its release date moved forward by several months. Originally scheduled for May 19, 2028, the film will now premiere in theaters on October 15, 2027.
This change was first reported by Gizmodo, citing information from Variety and has since been confirmed by multiple entertainment news outlets. The film, which remains untitled, is being directed by the filmmaking duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, collectively known as Radio Silence.
Radio Silence has gained recognition in recent years for their work in the horror genre, including the 2022 Scream reboot and its 2023 sequel Scream VI, as well as the 2020 thriller Ready or Not and its 2023 follow-up Ready or Not 2: Here I Come. Their involvement marks a notable shift in tone for The Mummy series, which has traditionally leaned more toward action-adventure than horror.
Despite this shift, the film is expected to retain elements familiar to fans of the franchise, including scenes involving scarabs and explorations of ancient burial chambers. John Hannah is also set to reprise his role as Jonathan Carnahan, Evelyn’s brother, continuing a key dynamic from the original 1999 film and its sequels.
The new October 2027 release date positions the film for a Halloween-season debut, a timing that aligns with its anticipated horror-influenced direction. This slot was previously occupied by a different project—a reported collaboration between Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler inspired by the 1980s series Miami Vice—which will now take the original May 2028 window.
