Radova’s Solo Goal Gives Leksand Playoff Win Over Hammarby 1-0
Tereza Radova scored the game-winning goal in a stunning solo effort, lifting Leksand to a 1-0 victory over Hammarby in the first leg of their playoff semifinal series. The goal, a dazzling run from her own zone, proved to be the difference in a tightly contested match at Stora Mossen.
Radova, visibly pleased after the final whistle, described the play as a rare burst of individual brilliance. “I get one of those surges maybe once a season where I just go for it,” she said with a laugh. “So I just took off from our zone.”
The goal wasn’t simply a matter of instinct, however. Radova admitted she immediately recognized the opportunity. “Yes, I did. I got up some speed and felt like it might work. Luckily, the puck went in.”
A Tense Affair
Beyond Radova’s spectacular goal, the game itself was a far cry from a classic. Both teams struggled to find their rhythm, with numerous turnovers and a lack of sustained offensive pressure. Leksand found it difficult to establish their usual structured play.
“I don’t think we played as well as we usually do,” Radova acknowledged. “We got stressed and made mistakes.”
The team’s pre-game nerves appeared to be a contributing factor. “It felt like the whole team was a little nervous,” Radova explained. “What we have is different than those matches where we can easily win 10-0.”
Hammarby’s relentless pressure certainly contributed to Leksand’s discomfort. “We had watched video, so we knew how Hammarby plays, but it’s still hard to fully prepare,” Radova said. “As soon as I had the puck, I had one or two opponents on me. They really fought hard.”
Skodova Stands Tall
While Radova provided the offensive spark, Leksand’s victory was also built on a strong defensive performance, anchored by goaltender Blanka Skodova. Hammarby created several dangerous scoring chances, but Skodova remained calm and composed, turning aside every shot she faced.
Radova praised Skodova’s performance, noting the difficulty of transitioning from games with limited shot volume to a high-pressure playoff contest. “She was fantastic. She was calm and stopped everything. Her play, and the fact that we won, were really the only good things about this performance.”
Series Shifts to Dalarna
The series now moves to Tegera Arena in Dalarna for Games 2 and, if necessary, 3. Leksand will have a day of rest on Friday before hosting Hammarby on Saturday. A decisive third game is scheduled for Sunday.
“They will fight hard, just like they did today, so we need to play better and not complicate things,” Radova stated, looking ahead to the next challenge.
