Zheng Qinwen eliminated Emma Raducanu from the Queen’s Club Championship on Friday, dashing hopes for British portrayal as the tournament heads into its final weekend. The 22-year-old Zheng, also an Olympic champion, secured a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Raducanu, who had become the British No. 1 upon reaching the quarterfinal.
In a compelling match held at the Andy Murray Arena, Zheng demonstrated her potential as a strong contender for Wimbledon. She reached her first semi-final on grass after converting her fourth match point.

Zheng, who has previously won singles titles on both clay and hard courts, noted her ongoing adaptation to grass. A key adjustment during her match with Raducanu involved switching shoes mid-game.
“I want to apologise for my shoes. I didn’t want to fall two times, but I just don’t know how to run on grass,” Zheng said. “I still don’t know when I have to change the grass shoes. I think right now is the time, so it’s the new shoes. I feel much better to run.”
She added,”It was a really difficult match for me,especially [because] she has got more experience than me on the grass court. I’m just really happy to get into the semi-final for the first time on grass.”
the first set saw a tight contest until Zheng, the world number five, broke serve to take a 4-2 lead. Despite the home crowd’s support for Raducanu, Zheng maintained her composure and won the set, even after a fall on set point.
Raducanu took a medical timeout for a back issue before the second set, shifting the momentum briefly in her favor as she gained a double break to lead 3-0. Though, Zheng quickly regained her form, leveling the set and then moving ahead 5-4 with an overhead smash.
Serving to stay in the match, Raducanu’s double fault handed Zheng three match points. Raducanu saved the first two, but Zheng ultimately prevailed, securing her spot in the semi-finals of the Queen’s Club championship.
