The facility features one of the longest runways in Britain alongside dedicated infrastructure built to accommodate large aircraft such as the B-52, B-1, and B-2. The base returned to prominence in March after the British government approved an American request to use the site for operations targeting Iranian missile installations. While bomber squadrons are not permanently stationed at Fairford, the U.S. military utilizes the location to transfer aircraft, crews, and equipment forward when executing long-range missions away from America.
