The meeting followed Silva’s reported statement that he did not wish to continue playing in Türkiye.
According to Hürriyet, aybaba delivered a firm response to Silva, referencing the contributions of former Beşiktaş manager Sergen Yalçın.
Aybaba’s Strong Response
Aybaba reportedly told Silva, “Sergen Yalçın set up the team’s game system through you. But you disappointed everyone. Nobody is bigger than Beşiktaş.” He further insisted that Silva contact his agent to discuss the situation, stating that a transfer request after receiving a signing bonus and transfer fee was unacceptable. “You cannot say ‘I want to go’ by getting money. I won’t allow this.”
Context: Rafa Silva’s Arrival and Expectations
Rafa Silva joined Beşiktaş with high expectations, largely due to his previous success under Sergen Yalçın. Yalçın, known for his attacking style of play, reportedly played a key role in bringing Silva to the club. Silva’s performance, however, has reportedly fallen short of expectations, leading to the current dispute.
Beşiktaş has invested significantly in Silva, including a signing bonus and transfer fee. The club is understandably reluctant to allow him to leave so soon after these investments, particularly given his perceived underperformance.
The Role of Sergen Yalçın
Sergen Yalçın’s influence on Beşiktaş’s squad and tactical approach is undeniable. His ability to identify and integrate talented players like Silva was a hallmark of his tenure.Aybaba’s reference to Yalçın appears to be a reminder to Silva of the prospect he was given and the expectations that came with it.
