Sterling and Chelsea are nearing a resolution in the next few days, ending the prolonged disagreement between the club and the winger by the February 2nd deadline.
Sterling hasn’t played for Chelsea since May 2024,despite remaining one of their highest earners at a reported £325,000 per week.
He spent last season on loan at Arsenal,appearing 28 times,but has been training separately from Chelsea’s first team since last summer when a transfer couldn’t be arranged.
Chelsea are currently in discussions with Sterling and his representatives, and a solution is anticipated before the window closes at 7pm on Monday.
He has 18 months remaining on a contract that coudl cost Chelsea £25m if he stays until its expiration in the summer of 2027, an option he’s entitled to pursue.
Sterling isn’t interested in another loan, meaning a permanent deal must be agreed upon in the coming days, or a compromise where he becomes a free agent.
Sterling signed a five-year contract when joining Chelsea from Manchester City for £50m in the summer of 2022.
the transfer occured shortly after Chelsea’s acquisition by new American owners, and during a period where co-owner Todd Boehly served as the club’s interim sporting director.
