Court Orders Home Ministry Response on Citizenship Petition Involving Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi: The court has instructed Additional Solicitor General S.B. Pandey to acquire instructions from the Ministry of Home Affairs within three weeks. The response is to be presented at the next court date, which falls in the week starting December 19, 2024.

In July 2024, the High Court allowed petitioner S. Vignesh Shishir to withdraw a similar petition, giving him the option to pursue his case under the Citizenship Act. Shishir has now re-applied to the High Court, stating he submitted two representations to the Union Home Ministry after withdrawing his earlier petition.

S. Vignesh Shishir, who resides in Karnataka, is also requesting a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into Rahul Gandhi’s citizenship status.
