Rahul Gandhi FIR: Congress Alleges BJP Diversionary Tactic Over Ambedkar Row
Congress Calls FIR Against Rahul Gandhi a “Diversionary Tactic”
New Delhi: The Congress party has slammed the Delhi Police for registering a First Information Report (FIR) against Rahul Gandhi in connection with a scuffle in Parliament, calling it a “diversionary tactic” aimed at silencing the opposition.
The FIR, filed on Thursday, stems from a complaint by BJP mps who alleged that Gandhi physically assaulted them during a heated exchange near Parliament’s Makar Dwar entrance. The BJP accused Gandhi of “incitement” and demanded charges of attempted murder, among others.
Though,Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal dismissed the allegations, stating on X (formerly Twitter) that the FIR against Gandhi is a “badge of honour” for defending the legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
“The FIR against Shri Rahul Gandhi ji is nothing but a diversionary tactic in response to his staunch protest against the Home Minister,” Venugopal wrote.
He further questioned the Delhi Police’s inaction on a complaint filed by Congress women MPs who alleged physical assault by BJP leaders during the same incident.
“At the same time, why has the Delhi Police not acted on the FIRs filed by women MPs of INC against the BJP leaders who physically assaulted them?” Venugopal asked.
the scuffle erupted on Thursday as members of the BJP and the Congress clashed over Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Both sides accused each other of assault and shoving, with two BJP MPs sustaining injuries.
The Congress maintains that BJP legislators blocked Rahul Gandhi’s path and pushed Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, injuring him in the knee.
This incident marks the latest chapter in the ongoing political battle between the BJP and the Congress, with both sides accusing each other of using strong-arm tactics and undermining democratic norms.
The FIR against Rahul Gandhi adds another layer of complexity to the already tense political climate in the country.
