The Tacoma Rainiers defeated the Sugar Land Space Cowboys with a 3-1 victory on April 8, 2026, at Constellation Field. The win brought the Rainiers to a 6-5 record for the season, while the Space Cowboys also sit at 6-5.

Pitching played a central role in the contest, as Jhonathan Díaz delivered his first scoreless start of the season. Díaz pitched 5.0 innings, allowing three hits and one walk while recording seven strikeouts.

Strong Early Pitching

The game began as a defensive struggle, with Tacoma’s pitching staff keeping the Sugar Land offense off the board for the first several frames. Through the first three innings, Jhonathan Díaz and Colton Gordon combined to allow only six baserunners.

The two left-handed pitchers combined for six strikeouts during those opening three innings to maintain a scoreless tie.

Wisdom and Rodden Drive the Offense

Tacoma broke the deadlock in the top of the fourth inning. Patrick Wisdom began the inning with a single to left field, later advancing to second base when Miles Mastrobuoni reached on a fielder’s choice.

Wisdom and Rodden Drive the Offense

After Brennen Davis grounded into a double play to move Wisdom to third, Brock Rodden hit a 1-2 pitch into the left field corner. The play drove Wisdom home and allowed Rodden to reach second base for his second double of the game, marking a career-high tie for Rodden and giving Tacoma a 1-0 lead.

The Rainiers extended their lead in the top of the sixth inning when Patrick Wisdom hit a solo home run to center field. The ball left Wisdom’s bat at 113.8 mph, which is the hardest hit ball by a Tacoma hitter so far this season.

This marked Wisdom’s eighth home run of the season, the highest total in Minor League Baseball.

Closing the Game

Tacoma further padded their lead in the top of the seventh inning. Contributing to the offensive effort, Colt Emerson recorded an RBI double.

The Rainiers maintained their lead to secure the 3-1 final score against the Space Cowboys.
